Ear Wax Removal
If you suspect you have a build-up of earwax, our hearing specialist will begin by checking your ear canals via an ENT level microscope, looking for wax or any other foreign objects. Confidence Hearing utilises the safest and most comfortable methods to remove the wax through micro-suction or manual removal via an instrument called a curette; thus, you can experience a professional ear cleaning with us. Once the wax is removed, a final check ensures a clean and wax free ear canal. Those that use hearing aids, ear plugs regularly, or those with narrow or bendy ear canals, will be more susceptible to a wax build up, so regular appointments are advised.
Why do ears produce wax?
The ear produces ear wax, or cerumen, to lubricate our ear canals, keeping the skin healthy and helping to prevent infection. Ear wax also protects our ear structures against foreign objects, such as dust, dirt or bugs, etc. Ear wax can vary in colour and be moist or dry.
What can lead to ear wax build-up?
• Excessive production of ear wax from ear canals
• Narrow or bendy ear canals preventing wax from migrating out from ear canals
• The use of cotton buds
• The use of hearing aids or ear plugs
• Skin changes related to aging process
What happens if there is a wax build-up in the ear?
Too much ear wax, also known as wax impaction, can cause a loss of hearing, dizziness, a feeling of blocked ears, a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ears, itchiness, pain, or tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
